Pursuing Your Destiny - 3D CoverBook Excerpts:

Chapter 1: (written by Michelle Rosado)

"No. I need to get in touch with my Mom and my brother and I..." I stared at my cell phone. 'Weird,' I thought. It had suddenly lost its connection.

From some nightmare out of Hell another airplane roared into sight overhead. Horror and disbelief filled me as I watched it smash into Tower 2. The tower burst into flames. The street side erupted into full scale bedlam. Humans turned into maniacs, thrashing through the streets in mass hysteria. I was thrown into a steel barricade and as Andrew helped me up a scene that is still embedded in my mind began to unfold.

As flames shot from Tower 2 it began to rain. Shattered glass, burning steel, cement, fiberglass, pulverized sheet rock, useless papers, office equipment and … people; fellow humans leaping to their deaths in the only act they could think of to escape.

Not strangers, but friends and co-workers, young and old. One by one they came.

My body, mind and soul shut down. I was dead but alive, seeing but blinded.
My voice sounded as if it was coming from outside of me when I asked Andrew, "Where do we go?"

He glanced toward the water, "South Street Seaport. It's the only place that is safe for now."

Chapter 6: (excerpt written by Randy Rosado)

As I approached the end of the wet roof to prepare for this task, I got this horrible feeling in my gut but decided to ignore it. I climbed over the edge of the roof with only my elbows holding me up, and my dangling legs trying to reach the top of the short ladder. I knew it would be difficult to extend my arms and would have to rely on my hands to hold me, or hope for my legs to reach the ladder, which would be the ultimate goal.

As I tried to let myself down, my arms slipped off the roof, my legs kicked out the ladder, and I came crashing down from the 10-foot roof onto the concrete. While I was in the air, I managed to pull myself into almost a sitting position before the bottom of my spine near the tailbone was slammed to the ground. The impact of the fall actually caused the concrete to crack, and it felt as if I had bounced after the hard fall, before finding myself rolling around in a dirt patch just off of the patio that became part of the backyard.

I knew that I was still alive because the pain was absolutely excruciating, and I was almost certain that I had broken my back or would be paralyzed from that day forward. As I rolled around in agony, I gasped for air as the pain shot through my entire body, which was hot, like there was a flame throughout me. Despite not knowing whether or not I would ever walk again, I forced myself to my feet as quickly as I could, forcing positive thoughts into my head, and envisioned the words, “ I will walk. I will walk.” I stumbled in circles but couldn’t get very far because the pain was still too much to endure, but it was good enough for me to know that my legs were still working.
